A lot has changed since the last post on Queenie. (Serious violation of blogging rules, we know.) So, here's an update....
Queenie is still at her original Austin Pets Alive (APA) foster home. Last Summer, she was joined by two foster brothers -- Diego, a 2 year-old orange male tabby, and Kiwi, an adorably fiesty black tabby male kitten. They all got along remarkably well, and, though they all went to APA adoption events, it took a little while for those boys to be adopted.
Kiwi was adopted to a lovely little girl who fell in love with him just before Halloween last year. Diego, who was terribly shy at adoption events, moved to the new APA cattery at the Petco in Sunset Valley. It took him a couple of weeks to adjust to his new environment, but he came out of his shell and eventually charmed one of the APA volunteers who helps at the Petco cattery. He was adopted by this volunteer as a companion for her beautiful, blue male kitty -- they are now the best of friends. Though their fosters are a little sad not to have these boys at home any longer,we couldn't be more happy that Kiwi and Diego found terrific forever homes!
So, that leaves Queenie without her foster kitty companions. She had been attending APA adoption events last Fall, which is, of course, stressful for most cats and kittens. With all those hands poking through her crate trying to pet her, Queenie would just withdraw into herself and hunker down until it was over. Fortunately for them, but unfortunately for Queenie, her shyness made the other more outgoing kitties more appealing at the adoption events.
And, since she had a couple of common minor medical issues in November, Queenie hasn't been to an adoption event in the last couple of months. But, she's nearly fully recovered and despite her shyness in public, Queenie is quite an affectionate cat! Her fosters were out of town recently and Queenie was cared for by a very nice pet sitter. It didn't take but a couple of days for Queenie to start chattering to the pet sitter and rolling over for belly rubs!
Now, Queenie has been in the APA cat program one of the longest of any of the foster cats -- nearly a year. (Of the 60 cats that APA had in the program in December who had been with APA longer than 6 months, 29 of them were adopted last month - yay!)
With the new year comes new hope that Queenie will find the perfect permanent home and family. (Her fosters love her, but would like to continue saving and fostering homeless cats, and cannot do that if they start adopting them!)
If you, or any pet lovers that you know, are looking for a sweet, playful, very cute and affectionate cat who has all of her vaccinations and is spayed, (not to mention those lovely long, white whiskers), please consider adopting Queenie!

Queenie is adapting to a new foster kitten... awww!
Okay, it took her a few days to warm up to the new foster kitten, but he is very perseverant. She finally has acquiesced and is even playing with the little guy. Queenie also occasionally lets him groom her!

Queenie is such a perfect foster cat!
Queenie sure has acclimated to her foster home. She now keeps her foster company whenever she sits on the couch or chair working. Queenie's purring and soft coat provide an nice ambiance while her foster is plugging away on the laptop.
Diego, Queenie's foster brother, have the best time playing together. They have even started to groom each other at times... aaaaaww.
Queenie is so deserving of a forever home, but despite her many charms, she has been a foster cat for months now. Unfortunately, she doesn't do well at adoption events - she doesn't care for crates and cages, and who can blame her?! - she's so shy in that environment, that potential adopters are drawn to other, more outgoing kitties. If you are interested in meeting Queenie, her foster parent will work with you to arrange a meeting so you can see just how adorable Queenie is and what a great addition she'd be to a deserving family!
Queenie's foster would adopt her, except that would mean the no more cats could be fostered in her home... and so many other cats need to be rescued now. (As it's kitten season, Town Lake Animal Center is full!) And, Austin Pets Alive is in desperate need of new fosters... please consider rescuing a homeless cat or dog and becoming a foster!

Queenie has a foster brother!
Queenie has acclimated to her new foster brother, Diego. Diego has been in his new foster home for a couple of weeks, and now that he is healthy again, he's been introduced to Queenie and the resident cat, Scooby. Queenie & Diego have been chasing each other and playing together with their various toys - gettin' along just fine!

After a brief vaca, Queenie is back 'home'
Queenie stayed with a temporary foster while her 'regular' fosters were away. She did okay, but the resident cat wasn't too thrilled to have a guest cat. She's happy to be back at her regular foster home and has returned to her love bug self... loves to be near and sit next to people. And, loves to play with her catnip-filled mouse!
She'll be at the Bee Cave PetsMart on Sunday, May 9, from 12pm - 3pm for one of Austin Pets Alive's cat adoption events. Come meet Queenie in person!

Queenie, making herself at home
What a cutie! Queenie is so affectionate and curious. She's making herself at home on the furniture now -- we can't very well keep her off, when the resident cat goes & lies wherever she likes. Queenie even sleeps within a few feet of the big resident dog now (progress).

Queenie is coming out of her shell
Queenie is quite healthy and we've gradually expanded her roaming space. She stays in one bedroom at night, but roams the house for several hours each day. She tries to play with the resident cat, who isn't too interested in Queenie yet. The large resident dog still scares Queenie, (even though the dog is very sweet & tolerates cats well) – it might take a while for Queenie to become friends with a dog (at least a large, curious dog).

More photos of the adorable Queenie
Queenie exploring for the first time outside her 'safe room.'
She and the resident cat, Scooby, know of each other's existence, but so far haven't shown too much interest in each other.

My Austin Pets Alive! foster cat, Queenie
Queenie was rescued from the Town Lake Animal Center through "Austin Pets Alive!". I picked her up there on February 19.
Queenie is a tiny little female cat -- very adorable with her “tuxedo” markings, white paws & long white whiskers (see photos).
She's quiet and has a healthy appetite. She is also fairly timid and a bit skittish when encountered with sudden moves or loud noises -- understandable, given that she was left at an animal center, now in a home new to her & just recovered from a upper respiratory infection. But, Queenie loves to have her cheeks and neck scratched… purrs very loudly. She also likes belly rubs.
Queenie is great in using the litter box and grooming herself. So far, she doesn’t like to be picked up nor be approached with two hands at once.
She is up-to-date on her vaccines and is spayed. Currently, Queenie is being treated for a weepy eye, but is completely adoptable!
